WE HOPEFUL FEW
Is an abstract story about humanity, curiosity and our connection with the universe. During which, a young child sets a balloon free into the surrounding urban environment, towards the clouds, and eventually the cosmos.

FILM STILLS
We Hopeful Few is a blending of my love for cinematography with color and design. Borrowing stylistic techniques from Playdead's stunning game: Inside, Stanley Kubrick's symmetrical composition layout, and Bladerunner + Interstellar's beautiful score/soundtrack, the vision for my thesis film could come alive with the generous help from fellow students and friends.  - SHAHIN ALIRKAN

ADVISORS
Initially, while brainstorming the idea, it was going to take place solely in space. Eventually as the project evolved and the style and narrative was finally settled on, I found that most of my favorite parts of the film took place on Earth. The idea just became so clear that wherever the setting was didn't matter much anymore.
There were many different scenes that needed to be given the same amount of care throughout the piece. Each with their own unique issues that quickly become more and more obvious the closer I got to deadline.
Again, I want to say thank you for taking the time to check out my thesis film page.
This film couldn't have been possible without the generous help from fellow students, friends and mentors!

Special thanks to
Andy Tai, Richard Hagen, Brian Frey, Derrick Forkel, Max Debzak, Matt Colgalazier, Gabe Aguirre, Lucas Northwood and Kirill Ulanovsky
and lastly to my thesis partner Daniel Mamut.
It was a rough road. You stuck through it all, and tried the best you could have.
I really appreciate it. Good luck, bud.
