POACHED: A FILM BY ISABEL WALLER
Poached is the story of a cheerful magpie whose only desire is to become a mother. What she lacks in experience, she makes up for in gumption as she attempts to "raise" her adopted child.

FILM STILLS / BREAKDOWNS
During my senior year I had the fortune of working with Isabel Waller to help her vision come to life. Poached easily became one my favorite films of our senior year. There were many obstacles we had to cross together from figuring out a unified style of shading the environment to bypassing the annoying abundance of leaves in her instanced scene in order to light properly. They all eventually become part of the character and spirit of the film as a final product.

Below is easily my favorite shot - SHAHIN ALIRKAN
Scene where the magpie discovers the grenade for the first time. It was quite exciting to create a caustic gobo and animate it across the face of the most expressive and lovable character of our year. The camera animation in the right gif was a challenge to find reference for even though we've seen a pov searching zoom shot hundred's of times in film and television.
I've definitely learned a ton from working on Poached, and found it is impossible to not care about something when another person(s) is so passionate about their work. Also instances are pretty finicky on a render farm!

Thanks to all the people who provided insight and critique during the hard thesis times, you know who you are!
Please give Poached a watch if you haven't! Tell your friends.
